However, they may be effective in treating the complications of a cold, such as an ear infection, sinus infection or bacterial pneumonia. For most of us, a cold is a minor inconvenience. However, if symptoms continue more than 10 days, a fever continues more than two days, or a severe sore throat, deep cough, difficulty breathing, or ear pain develop, see your doctor.
