Americans consume an average of 211 milligrams of caffeine a day which translates into about two 6-ounce cups. During the study, subjects were asked not to ingest caffeine in any form. Ten percent of the participants exhibited symptoms associated with depression and anxiety. Half experienced headaches which ranged from moderate to severe. Some of the subjects resorted to OTC medications to relieve their symptoms. Coordination tests were also performed on the subjects via a finger-tapping routine.
